  • HISTORY ASPECTS:
  • The T-34-85 was the most important late-war development of the Soviet T-34 medium tank. Introduced into frontline service in 1944, it replaced the earlier T-34's 76.2mm gun with a powerful 85mm weapon and introduced a larger three-man turret, giving the commander a better view of the battlefield while allowing the crew to divide their responsibilities more effectively. The combination of sloped armor, mobility, relatively simple construction, and improved firepower made the T-34-85 one of the principal Soviet armored vehicles of the final years of World War II.
  • T-34-85s entered combat during the Soviet offensives of 1944 and became increasingly numerous during the final year of the war. They saw extensive action during Operation Bagration in Belarus and subsequently participated in the Vistula–Oder Offensive, the Pomeranian campaigns, the fighting around Lake Balaton in Hungary, and the Battle of Berlin. By the beginning of the Berlin campaign, many Soviet tank brigades were equipped almost entirely with T-34-85s. The type also continued in combat against German Panthers, Tigers, Panzer IVs, tank destroyers, and anti-tank defenses as Soviet forces advanced toward Germany.
  • The 7th Guards Tank Corps was part of the 3rd Guards Tank Army and played a major role in the Soviet advance into Germany. Its 55th Guards Tank Brigade was one of the corps' three tank brigades, alongside the 54th and 56th Guards Tank Brigades. During the Berlin campaign in April 1945, T-34-85s of the 55th Guards Tank Brigade operated in the final battles against German forces defending the approaches to and streets of Berlin. Contemporary references identify a T-34-85 of the 55th Guards Tank Brigade and 7th Guards Tank Corps in Berlin in 1945, making this configuration representative of the armored forces involved in the final campaign of the European war.
  • This 1:32 scale model captures the appearance of one of the most recognizable Soviet tanks of World War II. Its historically themed markings and late-war configuration make it an excellent addition to collections focused on the Eastern Front, the Battle of Berlin, Soviet armor, or World War II military history. A striking display piece for collectors, this replica represents the T-34-85's important role in the Soviet advance from the major offensives of 1944 through the final battles for Berlin.
