  • HISTORY ASPECTS:
  • The Boeing 777-200ER became an important part of EL AL’s long-haul fleet as the airline modernized its widebody aircraft for nonstop service to destinations in North America, Europe, and Asia. EL AL selected the 777-200ER in the late 1990s, ordering its first three aircraft in 1999 as part of a major fleet modernization program. The twin-engine 777 offered the range and capacity EL AL needed for its longer international routes while providing greater operating efficiency than many of the four-engine aircraft it was replacing.
  • 4X-ECE, named “Sderot,” is a Boeing 777-258ER with manufacturer serial number 36083 and line number 648. It made its first flight as N5017Q on June 21, 2007, and was delivered to EL AL on July 23, 2007. It became the fifth 777-200ER in the airline's fleet and was the first of two additional 777s ordered by EL AL in 2005. The aircraft was delivered from Boeing's facility at Paine Field in Everett, Washington, and flew to New York and then Tel Aviv on its delivery journey.
  • Throughout its EL AL career, 4X-ECE has served on many of the airline's important long-haul routes. The 777-200ER fleet became particularly associated with services linking Israel with North America and Asia, while also serving European destinations. The aircraft's extended-range capability made it well suited to EL AL's worldwide network, and 4X-ECE has continued to appear on long-distance services including flights between Tel Aviv and New York, Bangkok, and other international destinations.
  • The aircraft has also remained part of EL AL's modernized fleet well into its second decade of service. 4X-ECE underwent a major interior refurbishment completed in July 2023, helping extend the useful life of the veteran 777 as EL AL continued operating its 777-200ERs alongside newer 787 Dreamliners. The aircraft's new EL AL livery gives the long-serving “Sderot” a refreshed appearance while retaining the blue-and-white identity that has become synonymous with Israel's national airline. 4X-ECE has no military combat history; its significance comes from its long service as an EL AL passenger aircraft and its role in connecting Israel with destinations around the world.
  • This 1:400 scale model in the new livery captures a particularly interesting aircraft from EL AL's long-haul fleet. The combination of the imposing 777-200ER, the aircraft's “Sderot” identity, and the refreshed EL AL colors makes it an excellent addition to collections of Israeli aviation, Boeing 777 aircraft, and historically significant EL AL models.
