  • HISTORY ASPECTS:
  • The Airbus A320-200 became one of the most important aircraft types in Spirit Airlines' history as the carrier transformed itself into one of the largest ultra-low-cost airlines in the United States. Spirit built its network around the A320 family, using the aircraft's efficiency and relatively high passenger capacity to support a low-fare business model. N604NK is an Airbus A320-232, manufacturer serial number 4431, built at Airbus' Hamburg facility and delivered to Spirit Airlines in September 2010. The aircraft was powered by IAE V2527-A5 engines and operated for Spirit for more than 15 years.
  • N604NK spent virtually its entire operational career with Spirit, becoming part of the airline's familiar all-Airbus fleet. The aircraft was initially configured with 178 seats before being reconfigured to 182 seats in 2016. During its career, N604NK operated throughout Spirit's expanding U.S., Caribbean, and Latin American network, wearing the distinctive Spirit yellow livery that became one of the most recognizable symbols of the American ultra-low-cost airline. Its long service reflected the central role the A320ceo played in Spirit's growth and its strategy of keeping aircraft productive through frequent utilization.
  • N604NK ultimately became a particularly important aircraft in aviation history because it operated Spirit Airlines' final revenue flight. On May 1, 2026, the A320 departed Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport as Spirit Flight NK1833, bound for Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. The flight departed at approximately 10:12 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time and landed at DFW shortly after midnight on May 2, marking the end of Spirit Airlines' scheduled passenger operations after more than three decades.
  • The final flight brought an end to Spirit's 34-year history as an operating airline. After landing at Dallas/Fort Worth, N604NK was withdrawn from service and moved to storage at Goodyear, Arizona, on May 10, 2026. Spirit's shutdown followed two Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings and unsuccessful efforts to secure a long-term rescue, eventually leading to the liquidation of the airline and its remaining fleet. The retirement of N604NK therefore represents much more than the end of one A320's career—it marks the final flight of an airline whose ultra-low-cost model had a lasting influence on the U.S. airline industry.
  • This 1:400 scale model commemorates a unique moment in commercial aviation history. The unmistakable Spirit yellow livery and A320-200 profile make it an especially meaningful display piece for collectors, while N604NK's association with the final Spirit Airlines passenger flight gives this model exceptional historical significance.
