  • HISTORY ASPECTS:
  • The Airbus A220 originated as the Bombardier C Series, a clean-sheet aircraft designed specifically for the 100- to 150-seat market. Developed with advanced aerodynamics, lightweight materials, large windows, and Pratt & Whitney PW1500G geared turbofan engines, the aircraft was intended to provide improved efficiency and passenger comfort compared with older-generation regional and small narrowbody jets. After Airbus took a majority stake in the program in 2018, the CS100 was redesignated the Airbus A220-100. Delta Air Lines was the U.S. launch customer and selected the type as an important part of its fleet modernization strategy.
  • N111NG is an Airbus A220-100 built at Mirabel, Québec, with test registration C-FOVL. The aircraft was delivered to Delta Air Lines in June 2019 and ferried from Montréal–Mirabel to Atlanta on June 6. It entered passenger service on June 14, 2019, joining Delta's rapidly expanding A220 fleet. N111NG is configured with 109 seats, comprising 12 First Class, 21 Delta Comfort+ and 76 Main Cabin seats according to current fleet records.
  • Delta's introduction of the A220 represented an important change in the airline's approach to smaller mainline aircraft. The carrier had originally ordered 75 aircraft as the U.S. launch customer for the C Series, seeking an aircraft that could provide the economics and flexibility needed for routes that were too large for regional jets but did not require a larger narrowbody. Delta's first A220 entered scheduled service on February 7, 2019, flying from New York-LaGuardia to Boston and Dallas/Fort Worth. The airline subsequently expanded the type across its domestic network.
  • N111NG has continued to serve Delta's domestic network, including routes through major hubs such as Atlanta and Minneapolis–St. Paul. Like the rest of Delta's A220-100 fleet, the aircraft represents the carrier's emphasis on modern, efficient single-aisle aircraft while providing a more spacious passenger environment than many older aircraft in the same size category. Delta currently operates 45 A220-100s, making the variant an established part of its fleet. N111NG has no military combat history, as it is a commercial passenger aircraft used in scheduled airline service.
  • This 1:200 scale model captures one of the distinctive aircraft of Delta's modern narrowbody fleet. With the A220-100's compact proportions, advanced design, and recognizable Delta livery faithfully represented at 1:200 scale, it makes an excellent addition to collections devoted to Delta Air Lines, Airbus aircraft, or the evolution of modern commercial aviation.
